ne environments. The park is known for its rich bird life\, particularly la

dbyes on our way back to Tampa. Backpacking Gear and Tips: *Important -
Bring Water and water purification system or tablets!!! - Carry enough wat
er to last at least one day\, I carry a camel back as well as 2 large Nalgi
ne bottles full. Without enough water\, your body just doesn't work. You ca
n go three days without food and you will lose some weight\, but if you go
three days without water\, you're body will shutdown. Food - You can burn
thousands of calories a day while backpacking\, so carry enough food to at
least keep you from getting weak. Have at least an extra day or two of rat
ions in case you eat more than expected\, a detour losing the trail\, or an
injury. Take carbohydrates as your primary content and power bars/dried fr
uit for a quick boost during breaks. Hiking boots - or strong walking shoe
s and at least 3 pair of socks. Your feet are your most valuable tool while
hiking\, protect them! We will be hiking up to 8 miles so please no flip f
lops\, sandals\, or bare feet. Most important a good pair of shoes. More hi
kes end early due to blisters than for any other reason. Full size backpac
k - To store your gear and allow you to keep your hands free. Please do not
bring a suitcase\, fanny pack\, or plastic bag and expect to have enough r
oom for everything. Backpacks with internal frames work best and make it ea
sier to carry your gear. Small tent - Small 1 or 2 person tents work best
for backpacking. The lighter the better when hiking. No need to bring a 6 p
erson tent for just you! No 8 person dome tents unless you are sharing with
the entire group. A range of clothing - The weatherman isn't always right
especially in Florida. It may be sunny and warm\, or may be around freezin
g and foggy. Key word with clothing is to be "Prepared". Dress in layers of
synthetic materials when possible. Avoid *denim* and cotton\, unless you w
ant to weigh 100 pounds heavier when wet. Carry at least a lightweight wate
r-proof jacket or poncho if there's any chance for rain. Bug Spray/Repell
ent - Florida is know for is bugs\, this time of the season is the lowest f
or bugs\, but they are still out there. 100% Deet works great just don't sp
ray it directly on your skin. Nothing drives me nuts quicker than a buzzing
horsefly. Knife or multi-purpose tool - Army knife or multi-purpose tool
such as a "Gerber". You can't imagine how often you'll use one of these on
the trail. Flashlight/Headlamp - For finding your way in the dark and sign
aling for help. Hands-free headlamps are best. Sunglasses/Hat/Sun block -
Otherwise you can fry your skin or hurt your eyes if you're out all day in
the sun. Sanitary Items/TP - When nature calls be prepared. Camera - Lot'
s of Kodak Moments on the trail. Hand Cleaner/Baby Wipes - Waterless hand
wash/Towelettes. Keep your hands clean\, and you'll be less likely to catc
h something nasty. Keep the rest of you clean\, and you'll feel better\, sl
eep better\, chafe less\, and smell better to your partners. Small-diamet
er nylon rope - It doesn't weigh much\, but is handy for all kinds of thing
 s. Hanging clothes\, food away from critters\, etc. and duct tape is useful
for everything from blisters to tent repairs. Trekking Poles - Trekking
poles are a great addition on any backpacking trip\; well worth the cost. H
elp in balancing across creek crossings\; taking pressure off knees going u
p and down hills. Extra Socks - Nothing's worse than squishy socks. From c
reeks or sweat. Take 3 pair. One to start out day with\; one to swap out mi
dday. Beef Jerky/Dried Fruit - Pound for pound\, the best food reserves yo
u can have. Heavy\, yes\, so take just enough to eat up first day or two ou
 t. Extra Batteries - If you're taking electronic anything. Flashlight or
GPS\, etc. Take some extra batteries. GPS units will burn through a set of
batteries in a hurry if you leave it on for very long at a time. Plastic T
rash Bags - Use to cover your pack or at least protect your sleeping bag if
it starts raining. Also great to have to set your gear out on dewy morning
s and then later to carry your trash out. Fluid Enhancers - Gatorade is g
ood on hot or long hikes as a continual light calorie source and helps keep
muscles from cramping. Anything with caffeine is good in the morning to ge
t you started for the day. Cost for TAG Members: Free for Paid TAG
Members! Transportation/Carpooling: If you wish to carpool and either ri
de with other TAG members or drive TAG members please let us know by submit
ting a comment at the bottom of this page. Thanks! Backpacking Experie

table using the equipment that you carry. Please do not make this event you

SUMMARY:Cooking Adventure: Soups - New England Clam Chowder – French Onion
 – Minestrone.
DESCRIPTION:Tampa Adventure Group (T.A.G.)\n\n In this hands-on
cooking Adventure We will be preparing the following famous soups: New Engl
and Clam Chowder – French Onion – Minestrone. Delicious! New England
Clam Chowder SoupThere are countless varieties of clam chowder - the most
popular of which are called New England Style and Manhattan Style. The labe
l New England Style has come to mean that the chowder has a cream or dairy
base while Manhattan Style refers to a tomato base. Rich French O
nion SoupFrench onion soup is one of the most popular soup recipes in resta
urants. It is also one of the most simple to prepare. Traditional French on
ion soup is a combination of rich beef broth and sweet\, caramelized onions
\, topped with French bread\, and melted cheese. This classic dish is a fav
orite in many countries for its perfectly contrasting flavors. The sweetnes
s of the caramelized onions goes wonderfully with the sharpness of the chee
se and the beef broth gives the soup a rich flavor. Hearty Italia
n Minestrone SoupHearty Minestrone soup is a thick\, delicious\, and fillin
g dish. It is quick and fairly easy to make. This soup is an Italian dish t
hat is extremely popular throughout the world today. Minestrone soup is per
fect for any day or occasion\, and is definitely a comfort food.

us hearty Meatloaves: Classic Meatloaf \, Italian Meatloaf\, and the Mexica
n Meatloaf Let's step back in time as we learn to make different varietie
s of meatloaf! Meatloaf has long been a standard main dish in America\, an
d according to John Mariani in "Encyclopedia of American Food And Drink\,"
was first seen in print as early as 1899. For many\, meat loaf is an ultima
te comfort food\, bringing back pleasant childhood memories of family meals
. All American Traditional Meatloaf Traditional American meatloaf is
formed into a loaf and baked in a form or open banking dish. It not only m
akes a great dinner entrée\, but leftovers are also well-known as a favorit
e for sandwiches. Spicy Mexican Meatloaf If you're looking for a
moist spicy version of meatloaf\, this one will make a nice addition to yo
ur file of best meatloaf recipes Italian Mozzarella Meatloaf Th
is loaf is rolled in sauce and baked. In addition to ingredients mixed into
the loaf\, others like parsley\, oregano basil and thyme are sprinkled on
top of the loaf which is also covered with bacon\, onion\, mushrooms and ch

ckly tire your arms out. 3. Use your feet like you would your hands. 4. T
rust your feet. You can stand on your legs all day. You don’t hang with you
r arms all day. Too often people hang on their arms and then fall off\, sai
ling right past a monster ledge they could have had their feet on. 5. Trus
t your belayer\, and focus on climbing. If you are worried your belayer doe
sn’t have you\, find a new belayer you can trust. 6. Concentrate on what i
s within reach. Sometimes you can use an intermediate hold (a smaller hold
between secure holds) to get to a better hold. 7. Climb from the bottom up
\, not top down. Of course\, if you can see the top of the route\, look to
see if there is a pattern working from the goal down to where you are\, but
when you start to climb\, focus on the climbing at the bottom of the route
as you climb up. 8. Climb in an X shape with your hips being the middle o
f the X. Hang with your arm straight. Your skeleton can take much more of a
load than your muscles can. If the heel of your foot is hanging too far do
wn you may notice your leg start to shake like a “sewing machine”. This is
very common occurrence\, simply apply more weight to your toes so your calf
muscle spasm can stop. 9. Fear of heights is normal. Climbing is all abou
t conquering those fears. Time will cure the fear of heights. A good trick
is to look down no further than your feet to correctly place them on the be
st part of the hold. 10. Take your time. Climb like a cat does—quiet\, del
iberate\, and precise. Picture the move\, and then execute it. Use all of y
our limbs\, not just two. The lower the angle of the climb\, the more time
you have\, so use it. Make each move as fluid as possible. Cost for T
AG Members: First Time Climber with TAG: Belay and Safety Class $24.00 (in
cludes instruction\, rental gear and climb time) Remember this is a one tim
e price. Once you have gone through the class the next time you climb all y
ou pay for is a pair of climbing shoes and the time. Return Climber with
TAG If you took the class during the first meetup or you are an experienced
climber your cost will be $7 plus $2.50 for shoes $9.50 Total with the 50
% TAG Discount Remember everything is 50% off for our group. Skill/Ro
ck Climbing Experience: I cant stress this enough! If you have never touche
d or climbed a rock in your life that is OK. This course is tailored to beg
inners and explains everything from scratch. You DO NOT need to have any ex
perience in bouldering\, belying\, ropes\, or repelling to participate in t
his event. All are welcome! Who: Only TAG members and their guests. Th

Ocklawaha River's rich history while Canoeing or Kayaking with the Tampa A
dventure Group (T.A.G.)\, T.A.G. will be there providing support during the
entire adventure. With so much in Florida changed by man through developm
ent\, growth\, and the influx of residents one wonders what the true Florid
a looked like. Fortunately some areas of Florida have been saved from mans
intrusion. The middle portion of the Ocklawaha River is one such place. The
110 mile long river originates in several lakes near the center of the sta
te and flows northward along the edge of the Ocala National Forest before i
t joins the St. Johns River south of Palatka. The Ocklawha forms the wester
n and northern boundaries while the St. Johns forms the eastern boundary of
the Ocala National Forest. Not many people think of dense forest and tree
canopied rivers when they think of Florida. The canopied Ocklawaha River i
s wild enough to have bobcats\, deer\, and black bears along its shore\, ot
ters swimming the channels and side creeks and wild turkeys strutting along
the banks and roosting in the tall cypress. It is home to more than 100 sp
ecies of fish\, 200 varieties of birds\, and 300 different mammals. There i
s no better way to enjoy this beautiful river than in a day or overnight ca
noe trip right through the heart of the river. These monkeys will be on
the river with us! Accommodations - Beautiful Rustic All-Inclusive Log C
abins: Florida cabin at their finest - Luxury Log Cabins! There's nothing q

Why hike to the Lost City (Ciudad Perdida) with the Tampa Adventure Group?
Colombia is a beautiful and wonderful country despite some of the negati
ve reputations. Teyuna is the indigenous name of the "Lost City" built by
the Tayrona Indians in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta between the 11th an
d 14th centuries. During the trek you will pass many little streams and
waterfalls\, some of which you can swim in\, and which have great views. Th
ere are several steep uphill climbs (the worst one takes about an hour on t
he first day)\, but it is worth it. Overall\, because of afternoon rains\,
you only hike for about 3-4 hours per day. Although the community atmosphe
re while walking is great\, it is also fun to spend an hour or so away from
the group while trekking to see more wildlife\, particularly on the 3rd da
 y. The lost City\, It's a magical\, mystical place. * In this remote
high jungle\, prepare to feel like your a real live Indiana Jones * The
overgrown mountain lost city was rediscovered 1976 * A mysteriously re
 mote location for a city of thousands     * Graceful carved terraces &amp\;
raised circular plazas stretch between 950-1350m * Some of the origina
l houses have been rebuilt * We will be visiting the indigenous village
s and Indian tribes that still exist en route. * Beautiful fireflies\,
butterflies\, bugs\, and other flying creatures * Dramatic tropical flo
wers &amp\; trees * You will be swimming in beautiful jungle waterfalls
and pools to stay cool and clean * Some of the worlds most unique bird
life * Multiple travel/tourist agencies have rated this the "best hike

Accommodations 2 Nights in a 18th Century Luxury Palace Hotel 2
Nights In a beautiful beach-front villa lodge 5 Nights in outside hamm
ocks in the jungle History of The Lost City (Ciudad Perdida) Ciudad Pe
rdida was discovered in 1975 when looters came across the site and began to
sell the treasures of gold\, precious stone and ceramics at market. By 197
6 the officials had brought the situation under control and the restoration
project and investigation began. Although research is ongoing\, it's beli
eved that Teyuna - as the city was then known - was constructed around 700A
D by the Tayrona civilization. This community of around 3\,500 people const
ructed their mountainside city using sophisticated drainage techniques in b
uilding platforms on the slopes connected by a maze of stairways and simple
paving. Evidence of their beliefs\, customs and way of life can be seen th
rough the town's layout\, centered around 'La Piedra del Sapo' a stone symb
ol representing their animal Gods. The city of Teyuna met its end around t
he time of colonization when the arrival of the Spanish meant that the Tayr
ona people's trade route with the coast became blocked. What did make it ba
ck to Teyuna instead was disease. Without the antibodies to defend themselv
es against new illnesses such as syphilis and smallpox\, the tribe was almo
st completely wiped out. Click Here! - To view the complete event inf
