Background Information:
The Ocala National Forest receives more visitors than any other national forest in the Sunshine State. Millions annually visit the forest, which is one of Central Florida's last remaining traces of forested land. The Ocala National Forest contains a high proportion of remaining Florida Scrub habitat and is noted for its Sand Pine scrub ecosystem. The forest contains the largest concentration of sand pine in the world as well as some of the best remaining stands of Longleaf Pine in Central Florida. The forest’s porous sands and largely undeveloped character provide an important recharge for the Floridan Aquifer. The Rodman Reservoir system forms most of the northern and north western border as part of the Ocklawaha River Basin.
The Ocala Forest is also known for having over 600 natural lakes and ponds. The forest is riddled with slow-moving rivers and wet "prairies". They are sunny, shallow expanses of water, usually ringed by cypress trees and filled water lilies and other with aquatic plants. Between the river boundaries of this Forest lie central highlands, coastal lowlands, swamps, springs and hundreds of lakes and ponds. Near the Juniper Prairie Wilderness and Juniper Springs is "The Yearling Trail", the location where The Yearling was filmed.
Ocala has a wide variety of wildlife. The Florida Black Bear population has its highest concentration here. American Alligators, white-tailed deer, wild boar, and numerous small animals, including bats, Coyote, Gray Fox, Red Fox, Virginia Opossum, Raccoon, North American River Otter, Bobcat, Striped Skunk, Southeastern Pocket Gopher, and Nine-banded Armadillo can be found as well. The sandy soil is home to the Gopher Tortoise.

Hey is anyone bringing their bike?
All, We will be in Cabins 2 and 20. They are right next to each other, close to the lake, face the water, and are close to the lodge and other facilities. Remember check is at 4PM or later. We can not check in before 4 PM.
Since we may be arriving at different times on Friday, what about everyone is on their own and we have a group meal Saturday night? Oh yeah, you might want to bring/pack something for a sandwich and/or fruit for lunch on the ride Saturday. The ATV folks have water and packs of crackers/cookies which are great but not quite enough for lunch. Yall as e-x-c-i-t-e-d as I am?
David - as a THANK YOU! for being our awesome adventure leader and hooking us up with the upgrade, I would like to cook dinner for you either Friday or Saturday. On trips (camping) you (and Stan, but looks like he's not coming) are always grilling and taking care of us - my/our turn! Please post some of your most favorite things that you would consider a real treat...
Saweet! Yay for luxury!
@ Rachelle: I was just planning on bringing my own food but if Stan is going to cook, I'll bring the extra bucks to grab a plate. But is Stan actually going?
Email has been sent :-)
I didnt get an email :( but I will share the changes with my guests from this page.
Who's the BEST meetup group leader E-V-E-R? David you rock!
All,
Lucky You! I just upgraded the cabins to even a bigger and better resort with a heated pool, jacuzzi, game rooms, lodge with WI-FI internet and more. Please check the location it has changed to another resort! Update your trip so you end up at the right resort. Look for the email I sent you as well!
Sami and Michell it looks like it's just the three of us +Stan going on this adventure (+your two Michell). I'm taking Stan's cooking class Friday night so I'll ask him about the food; if he's cooking or if we are all on our own and will post back here.
are we going to chp in money or food for group meals, or should we bring our own stuff?
I hope so. My preference would be to go with the first group.
It seems like if there are two days to ride and we were the first to sign up...
Can we request the day to hit the ATV?
Since check in is at 3, is it ok to head up early? My group would like the Saturday ride.
Stan will you be cooking an awesome meal or two? If yes, what's your menu and how much money can I chip in or what food items can I bring to add to the pantry?
Gah people sign up!!! I want to go!
