TAG at Hillsborough River State Park July 2008
TAG Extreme Event Rating 2 of 10 - Easy (4 Miles of flat hiking)
Ready to see the real Florida outdoors? Come and get out of the city life for a day. If you have never visited this state park you are missing out. Grab your backpacks, cameras, water, snacks, and meet us out there at the trail head at 9:00AM.
Background Info:
Opened in 1938 as one of Florida´s first state parks, this park is divided by the swiftly flowing Hillsborough River. Fort Foster, a replica of an 1837 fort from the Second Seminole War, is located on the park grounds, adjacent to the river. Fort tours are offered on weekends or with a reservation. Hikers can walk over seven miles along four nature trails. The Wetlands Restoration Trail accommodates hikers. Located 12 miles north of Tampa and six miles south of Zephyrhills on U.S. 301.
What:
We will be hiking the trails in order of River Rapids, Baynard, and then the Florida Trails. The total distance is approximately 5 miles and will take from 4-5 hours depending on the groups pace. There are multiple trail routes so feel free to complete the trails with the group if time permits, or use a side trail to head back to the car. This give everyone the ability to hike around without having to be stuck on any single route.
When:
Meet at 9:00AM if your interested in breakfast meet us earlier at the restaurant near the pool for make-your-own pancakes!
Where:
We will meet at the Main Parking Area called P4 located across from the Pool and small gift shop. When you check in at the ranger station they can provide directions to the parking for the main parking area across from the pool called P4 as well as a park map.
